"QUEEN OF THE NIGHT"
FRIDAY 17 MARCH 2023

“Queen of the Night” was a performance piece presented by Wackie Ju. The poetic routine narrated an allegory influenced by the Sand Mandala practice from Tibetan Buddhism — The manifestation of mindfulness through the intricate slow process of work instead of the temporary validation post-completion. Metropolitan lifestyle in a postmodernist society has clouded the intention from the purest nature within, instead leaving the empty vessels seeking the ultimate ending, the vain, the hollow. With a focus on transitional properties in the manipulation of thermoplastic materials, this performance transforms the delicately constructed garment, which took a full week upon completion, into a bloom of limbo-like deterioration. At this 'Queen of the Night' viewing party, perhaps the viewing was an internal understanding to make peace with embracing the process that carries the body of ego. Joy will come from the mundane not merely the transcendental fulfilment. Every moment counts, every moment matters and every moment brings validation.
