Ron Jude returns to the imagery of his Central Idaho hometown, sourcing photographs from the local newspaper to construct a new narrative. Reframing these everyday visuals, Jude captures the emotional undercurrents of a divided America—reflecting a landscape shaped by confusion, grief, and a restless search for control. With a rhythmic flow of images, the work evokes a collective atmosphere rooted in both personal and cultural dissonance. Echoing the themes of his earlier book Alpine Star, Dark Matter is a layered reflection on identity, loss, and how photography not only documents reality, but also subtly shapes the ways we see and understand it.
