Punk Girls is the first monograph in Australian history to exclusively document women in the local Punk scene. The culmination of five years of work by acclaimed portrait and fashion photographer Liz Ham, Punk Girls features over 100 portraits that capture contemporary Australian punk girls in their many guises.
Intimate documentary footage and fashion editorial directed by Liz Ham shine, reflecting the often controversial collision of politics, fashion and music classically associated with the Punk movement. Punk Girls pushes back against stereotypes to illuminate how Australian women have continued to channel and evolve the original punk ethos and aesthetic into new forms through their lives and their bodies.
Into the future, Punk Girls will expand to include the publication of interviews conducted over the past five years, as well as capturing further portraits for the ongoing archive of Punk Girls locally and internationally.
The book features an introductory essay by artist Emma Price of seminal performance collective The Kingpins, and an interview with activist, model, radio producer and House of Riot founder Ollie Henderson.
